It’s amazing how simply taking our eyes off of ourselves and putting them on God brings unshakeable confidence. As long as we’re focused on ourselves, we’ll still be overcome with insecurities. Instead, we should look to Jesus. Today I want you to meet my friend Kim. She’s a young woman with a rare depth of character and heart after God. She’s going to talk about the 30-day “mirror fast” she did, and the confidence she found when she started looking to God, and what He had to say about her, instead of looking at herself. I love her humility as she shares her story, AND it’s inspiring and encouraging – so get ready!
Deleted Scenes: This is a section about how my heart awakens at the thought of an eternity with Him. It’s simply called “Eternity.” In addition, this is a blog post I wrote a few months ago that also talks about that feeling of drawing your heart away: “Moment with the Divine.”
Songs: Oh man, there are so many songs that impact and encourage me to remember this life is all for Him! Here’s the promised song “Eternity” that I wrote years ago.
Want to hear the beautiful story behind the song I mentioned during the chapter: “In Light of You” by Andre French? Then click here!
Now I’m going to put in one of my favorite songs for you to listen to – it’s the one I quoted to open the coffee date – Brooke Fraser’s “C.S. Lewis Song.” I couldn’t find a video with English subtitles – for some reason – so listen closely! 🙂
Some other favorites are “Captivated” by Vicky Beeching, “Only a Shadow” by Misty Edwards, “Crazy” by Mercy Me, “Restless” by Audrey Assad, “It’s All About You, Jesus [Lover of My Soul]” by Paul Oakley (the Passion version), and “Revelation Song” by Kari Jobe.
Books: “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan was AMAZING. You HAVE to read it – oh my goodness!! SO GOOD! It challenged, convicted, inspired, and refreshed me! “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer taught me how to change the way I think, which helps to set my mind on things above and keep an eternal perspective. “Hinds Feet on High Places” by Hannah Hurnard is the story of “Much-Afraid,” a young woman who goes on a journey with the Shepherd (representing Jesus) and one day comes away with a new name: “Grace and Glory.” It is a fantastic picture of a daily journey lived with the Lord, kind of like a “Pilgrim’s Progress” story – only different. “Set-Apart Femininity” by Leslie Ludy shook me to the core and led to making some changes in my life. If you take this book seriously, you will find your life full of a contagious love for the Lord that impacts everything you do.
Bible Reading: Check out Colossians 3:1-4. This passage talks about setting our minds and hearts on things above, things that are eternal and will last. It’s so easy to set our hearts and minds on things in this world, but we need to remember that our lives are hidden with Christ in God. All that truly matters in the long run is wrapped up in Him. While we are here on this earth we need to continually refocus, looking up to Him.
If you want to read Mary’s story for yourself, turn to Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:36-50, or John 12:1-11. And lastly, Psalm 27, especially verse 4, is my favorite passage in all of Scripture. Oh how I long to spend my life pursuing the Lord!
